It is with the greatest sadness that we report…our beloved Jeremy Lusk passed away at approximately 11:03 PM PST this evening due to complications from the crash sustained Saturday evening in Costa Rica. Still in the Calderon Hospital Intensive Care Unit, he was surrounded by his loving Mother and Father, Chuck and Gina Lusk, his wonderful wife Lauren, his Mother and Father-in-Law Lynne and Larry and many of his closest Mulisha family members including Brian Deegan, Ryan Hagy, Cameron Steele
and Erik Apple.
Please keep Jeremy and his family in your thoughts and prayers. All the warm thoughts, comments and support are comforting in these times.
We will provide further updates regarding arrangements as we get them.

I have to believe had he crashed in the states, he might have had a better chance. The video of the on-sight medical attention is just appalling. It sickens me to think what could’ve been done had he received proper emergency care on sight. RIP Jeremy you will be missed

February 10th, 2009 at 4:08 pm
To Factoryblak: I´m really sad about this lost and believe me that all this country is (Costa Rica) sad too. Actually last saturday after the accident all the people was very worried about what happened to Jeremy more than the event. And all that I´m gonna say maybe is not the moment to do it but you can say what could or couldn´t happened if the accident was here in Costa Rica or in United States. The protocol that every emergency crew follows is the same in every country in the world and you can´t underestimate a country because is not United States, country by the way, that is not the center of the universe as you think. Here the medical services are really really good (and free) an they managed the situation in the way that could be managed in the United States or Germany or wherever the accident could happen. It´s a shame that a great guy as Jeremy was, had that accident and died but you can´t say the medical services weren´t good enough because we are not USA. Rest in peace Jeremy!!
February 10th, 2009 at 4:11 pm

February 10th, 2009 at 6:38 pm
I have never met Jeremy or his family, but i cant help but feel deeply saddend by this whole thing. After just reading the interview with him in transworld mag not to long ago, and everthing going great, and then coming on here today to read the headline “Remembering Jeremy Lusk” i was very shocked! And then after watching the video(which i shouldnt have done) i couldnt think of anything to say, i was just stuned, and i still am. My greatest sympathies to his family and friend’s, i can’t begin to imagine how they are feeling…….Rest In Peace Jeremy, you wont be forgotten!
February 10th, 2009 at 6:41 pm
God Bless Jeremy, his wife, family and friends. Very tragic to see such a young man taken away. That was a horrible accident, but what was the medical staff in the stadium thinking. Quickly turning him over, ripping off his helment, and running with him barly attached to the stretcher was very hard to watch. Please hire properly trained personnel in the future for these kids putting their lives at risk. That was no way to treat a brain and spinal injured person.
February 10th, 2009 at 6:42 pm
dude thats not ok…why would you say that
February 10th, 2009 at 6:50 pm

I prayed the instant i saw the video and continue to pray after hearing of Jeremy’s passing. Although i have little background in FMX, I am the co owner of a BMX company as well as a rider so I can relate to Jeremy’s unconditional love for his sport. We all know the risks associated with our lifestyles, but that doesn’t stop us from going out and doing what we love. We need to keep Jeremy, his family, and friends in our prayers and continue to forge on in Jeremy’s honor. Keep it metal.
RIP JEREMY LUSK

I saw Jeremy at countless X-Games events. Just this last Summer after the winner ceremony at the X-Games he was throwin stuff to the crowd, and he looked me dead in the eye and toossed me his boot. It was ripped form my hands, so he threw his other one. I didnt get that either, but the fact that he tried makes it that much better. I will never forget that moment.
God Speed Jeremy!

Stay in peace Jermy
February 11th, 2009 at 3:47 am
Condolences and prayers, for the family. My Son, Jeremiah, rode ramps with Jeremy, very early in his FMX career, and both he and I, will miss him and his FMX talent. There are no easy answers to this tragic accident, however, he was very successful at a sport he enjoyed immensely. It does not soften the loss, but many who are not extreme athletes with a passion for their sport, die with an innocuous slip in tub at home.
I hope everyone remembers Jeremy by living their lives to the fullest.
Thanks for the memory’s,
Steve

I saw this live on TV, and the first thing I thought was, “Oh my GOD! This guy has to be already dead”… The crash was really bad and he remained uncouncious until he fell in coma, his wife arrived to the hospital next day morning, and his parents arrived only 10 minutes before his death.
If you ask me if I would prefer him to be alive or not, I would say that it would be better for him and his family to be dead than being on a wheelchair or in a bed for the rest of his life time or even worse, depending on tubes and machines.
Ride In Peace Jeremy Lusk! WE LOVE YOU!
February 11th, 2009 at 10:38 am
I’m not saying the medical attention he received in the hospital was poor, in fact it is my understanding that he received excellent care in the hospital. The procedures that were followed on site is where my problem lies. Jeremy suffered a obvious head/neck injury. They way he was rolled over, helmet removed, head and body not secured and then running off the track with him just on a back board. All within 2 min. of the accident. It has been proven that the most important time after a major injury is the minutes immediately after, so to move him so quickly was completely unnecessary. I can assure as a someone who is an EMT and works a lot of amateur motocross events, those first responders followed absolutely no procedures that are standard in the sates and many other countries. It is no a knock on Costa Rica as a country. But I just know that here that those protocols would have been followed and it may not have saved his life, but you would have known everything that could have been done was.
February 11th, 2009 at 11:13 am
Bradleys comment was just wicked horrible. I only ride quads but always care when anyone gets injured in any off road sport or any other sport for that matter.
Cant see why they havent taken that incredibly stupid comment down.
Just donated $10 to the fund. It is not much but always try to do so when I see a riderdown.org or athleterecoveryfund.com stand at a race or an event. Never know when it could be myself or one of my friends.
February 11th, 2009 at 11:49 am
my prayers go to lusk and his family…atleast he died doing something he loved doing with his whole heart and not in iraq or whatever at a war. either way its a big blow to the worldwide motocross/fmx family
February 11th, 2009 at 12:29 pm
God Bless Jeremy….He was the best….he lived more in 24 years than most live in a lifetime…our thoughts and prayers are with the family
February 11th, 2009 at 12:38 pm
Our thoughts and prayers are with Jeremy’s family and the mulisha. Your sadness is felt around the world. I’m glad I had the chance to watch and read about him. Jeremy is a true inspiration to all.
God speed, and RIP brother.
February 11th, 2009 at 1:24 pm
Please Transworld: Please take these heartless immature comments down. Please………R.I.P Jeremy
February 11th, 2009 at 2:02 pm
you’re an idiot Bradley
February 11th, 2009 at 2:21 pm
My heart goes out to Jeremy, his family, and his Mulisha friends. It is a shame he had to pay the ultimate price for doing something he loved and devoted his life to.
It’s not about money, fame, or fortune for the individules that pursue FMX - it’s about passion, friendships, and loyalty.
I think we all need to step back, take a breath, and be thankfull that God has given us another day to be with our family and friends.
Rest in peace Jeremy.
