Saturday evening marked a turning point in the 2009 Monster Energy Supercross Series. Not only was San Diego the last west coast round of the series until Seattle in two months, but it also played host to the changing of the guards so to speak.
In the West Coast Regional Supercross Lites series, Ryan Dungey was more or less dominant on his run to reclaim the points lead before the West’s long break. After a less than perfect round at Anaheim II, Dungey found himself a few points down in the points chase. Following Saturday night however, the Rockstar/Makita/Suzuki rider now sits two points ahead of series rival, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Jake Weimer. Jake looked strong in the main but could not get around his teammate, Ryan Morais, and eventually finished third.
Supercross class action was fairly predictable thanks to a strange heat race system that basically had all of the top riders in the second heat. With the top three in points all in the same heat, it took away from the guessing game of where each rider stood come the main event. Hopefully, the AMA will think better of this format in the future. In the main event itself, San Manuel/L&M/Yamaha’s James Stewart led every lap on his way to tying Rockstar/Makita/Suzuki ace, Chad Reed, in the points chase as the series heads east next weekend for Atlanta.

i am not at all a stewart fan but im not going to bash him for winning all the time. its the fault of the rest of the riders not stewarts. how can you blame someone for doing their best every weekend? the rest of the riders are gong to have to start riding beyond their comfort zone, which we know reed doesnt like to do. step it the f$%k up guys!

Unfortunately, no ones really “stepped up” besides Ricky in Stewart’s past 7 years as a pro, so I don’t think anyones suddenly gonna change now.

What was up with the sheriff’s department anyways? They were at Anaheim too… Are they just there to say “hey look what we have to try and stop you from having fun” I cant understand at all why the hell they would show up to a supercross race of all places

Supposed to be moving up to 450s for the East Coast rounds. We hear he will not be ready for Atlanta, but likely Indy SX.

February 17th, 2009 at 7:15 pm
one thing about stewarts winning. mr joe shmoe who wants to get into dirt bike riding and doesnt have a long vast knowlege of the sport,… yamaha is making money on people like that so id say all this winning helps that brand.. i could be wrong but im sure theres still lil kids who want to ride the bike that the guy winning is on when i was young i did.

February 18th, 2009 at 12:19 pm
I am an officer, and I’ve been riding motocross and offroad for 30 years. Because of the training officers receive, they can out-drive(without a doubt)and out-ride many of the people on these forums. Trash talking the police simply shows your immaturity. The sport wouldn’t have many of the laws and misconceptions if riders would be ethical on their own accord. MedinA, karma will catch up with you….watch out!!
February 18th, 2009 at 2:26 pm
I dont agree with Medina or the Officer Proffessional Motocross Rider. For one I respect cops completely. But I think it’s crossing a line coming to show up to supercross races to rub it in people’s faces that they’re spending thousands to keep us from riding. I guess I should just become a cop so I don’t have to pay for my bike but can still ride wherever I want… just as long as I ruin it for people doing the exact same thing.
February 18th, 2009 at 11:47 pm
Really well then i guess i will be come a cop so they can teach me me to clear the triple!!
February 19th, 2009 at 4:23 am
Look at the yz hammer! Thinking he’s Buford T.Justice! Man,all because your Johnny Law doesnt make you a great driver. Just a couple of short years ago,I bet that county mountie thought he was gonna get me to, but to think your crown victoria or your impala,is going to catch my ninja, yeah right! My father is a retired cop,and they use to say “You can out run the car,but you can’t outrun the radio.” Well that day,I must have been damn fast, cause nothing ever else came about it, So I guess thats Rico 1 Johnny Lawdog 0!

Cary Heart obviously likes to blow money but he must be really loaded to have Mr. Half A$$ Himself the King of .00% effort.
The almost was JOSH HANSEN.
This kid has screwed over everyone who has attempted to help him. When is the industry going to stop catering to these very talented spoiled brats and start looking for the next Ricky..You know someone with actual **work ethic.**
What a waste of talent. Maybe he will kill it flipping burgers next season.
