Supercross Main Event
The Supercross class has been one of the tightest points battles in series history. Since the first night in Anaheim, anyone at any round so far has seen the determination every rider has to win. Tonight was no different, and it made the remaining rounds only more important. The holeshot went to Josh Grant, and he had Jason Lawrence and Andrew Short in tow. Short would fail to double the finish line on the opening lap, and would have gotten a good look at the underside of Chad Reed’s bike as Reed soared overhead. James Stewart was running in the top five, and made quick work of Lawrence and Short. Going on top of the bridge, Grant slowed, with Reed on his rear fender. Reed snagged a Tuff Block, losing precious time to the incoming Stewart. A lap later Reed tripled the two dragon backs in a pass on Grant, who would then be passed by Stewart a section later. As they came to start lap four, Stewart got a drive and passed Reed right before the finish, claiming first in a spot he would hold for many laps. The two would be the only riders to hit the dragon back section as a triple, which cut their laps by major amounts over everyone else.
Meanwhile, the rest of the pack raced on. Team Yamaha’s Broc Hepler and Mike Alessi would touch over the dragon back, and Helper would overshoot the inside line in the next turn, letting Mike get past. Short and Lawrence had many anxious to see what the two aggressive riders would pull, but they fought a clean battle to the finish. At the halfway point, Chad Reed had closed the gap slightly, only to see it widen again. Reed was close enough to see Stewart’s line in the whoops, and would go on to copy it a few laps later. On lap 14, it would come crashing down for James, hitting neutral at the worst time, nosediving into the face of the bridge. As he got up, he was nearly clipped by Factory Yamaha’s Josh Hill, but the damage was done. Chad got past the carnage and pushed until the final lap, claiming yet another victory and widening the points lead.
