After spotting a post by GuyB on Vitalmx.com’s message board, we did a little investigating for ourselves and found out that it is in fact true—Mike Alessi broke his knee cap today while riding. Initial reports had him practicing at or near the High Point track. Apparently, he lost control, flew off the track, and struck a post with his left knee. We’ve been told that he is out for six months.
Stay tuned for the official release from Suzuki in the morning.

I not glad he is hurt but sure seems like he has an attitude problem
June 9th, 2009 at 1:12 am
His season is like most of his motos… Fast Start only to fade.
June 9th, 2009 at 1:47 am
Ya, he sure faded in that 1-1 sweep of Freestone
June 9th, 2009 at 2:13 am
too bad about that seems like he faded faster than everyone thought
June 9th, 2009 at 2:18 am
Too bad. I was lookin forward to seeing a team suzuki battle for the title
June 9th, 2009 at 2:25 am
no one rider I am a fan of as I travel in the industry and work with various riders, but your comments are joke. Does that mean bubba fades, or carmichael fades? When you have a lead you can relax the half of the race if you have the time on everyone else. No one had anything for alessi at texas and probably the rest of the year if he stayed healthy… Now get off your computer and go do some exercises - you'll probably fade just heading to your fridge!
June 9th, 2009 at 3:37 am
Alessi has the worst luck! Last year he had 2nd place in the bag before his crash at Red Bud and now he has the championship wrapped up and hurts his knee.
June 9th, 2009 at 3:56 am
Thanks TAG330 for shutting these punks up!!!! What the hell is wrong with the youth of today?
June 9th, 2009 at 4:13 am
He's faster than any of you dorks on your computers. If you can even ride at all. I don't care for him myself but he is very fast and he works very hard! Its a bummer, On the other hand if Stewart or villapodium was there we might have seen a great season? Now to watch Mr. second place him self (Chet Reed) Get the championship with his consistancy. Boring!!!! Good luck to the rest of the field, Now is there one and only chance too win an outdoor race! P.s. GAY-LAW probably wont even score a point this year! Maybe its all carma for his bad attitude and way of presenting himself !
June 9th, 2009 at 4:28 am
As for his riding ability, he is a great rider. As for his attitude, I think he is a jackass. I have been at the same track as him more than once, and how he treated his fans, and the "local pros" is a horrible. The believe the hype shirts were ridiculous. The injury is horrible but….. Karma sucks.
June 9th, 2009 at 5:11 am
First Stewart won't race, then RV gets injured, and now this! Alessi may not be my favorite rider, but this was not good news in any way. Get well soon Mike!
Well, the fight for the championship will be an open one at least.
June 9th, 2009 at 5:13 am
that sucks soooo bad. he had said he took sx a little easy so he wouldnt get injured from his main priority (mx) n gets hurt while he had a half day's lead over everyone else
June 9th, 2009 at 6:22 am
wow this season is curses , i hope noone else starts to dominate, or theyll get taken out too!
June 9th, 2009 at 7:48 am
So shit. He's not my favourite but he was on fire. Motocross is a cruel sport. Go Reed and Pourcel.
June 9th, 2009 at 10:52 am
GET WELL SOON MIKE!!!
June 9th, 2009 at 10:53 am
Seriously, as previous comments already pointed out, the riders this season are being taken out starting from the top. Damn those knees, I see no good use for them anyway. Banish them from the world I say.
June 9th, 2009 at 11:51 am
the way he rides over his head all the time…he was bound to crash. Kinda wish I got to see the little prick go down in person at High Point
June 9th, 2009 at 12:02 pm
bummer for mikey, he had a real shot at it this year.
get well soon buddy!
June 9th, 2009 at 1:59 pm
WHAT?! thats a shame. i was really pumped for mikey, he was so good! aww mannn this is shaping up like the season GL8 won. a new winner will emerge. hopefully there will be good racing!
June 9th, 2009 at 2:12 pm
Get well Mike! This is a devastating blow for the MX fans. Good news is Chad Reed is given another title.
June 9th, 2009 at 2:22 pm
omg this whole god damn season is falling right into reed's lap. Lets Look at all the people who would potentially win before him:
1.James Stewart
2.Ryan Villipoto
3.Mike Allesi
4.Grant Langston
5.Tim Ferry
6.Ben Townly (maybe)
And now with Josh Grant getting 25ths and Jason Lawrence not completing a moto till 4 races in, it's pretty much Reed's season for the taking. And the worst part is he could care less if he wins or not.
June 9th, 2009 at 2:24 pm
I am not a Alessi fan either, but you are an asshole.
June 9th, 2009 at 2:54 pm
before people start saying he was going to win the championship im going to make sure they remember villopoto handing him the championship.
June 9th, 2009 at 3:34 pm
Damnit! I'm not an Alessi fan really but I'd rather see him win over Reed. ABR! Anybody but Reed! Go Josh Grant!!
June 9th, 2009 at 4:10 pm
lets hope for a new winner every moto from now on!!!
June 9th, 2009 at 5:46 pm
Reed wins again by default. That guy cant win his own championship. Lets go Grant/Short
June 9th, 2009 at 5:58 pm
I think this only points out how Amazing Carmichael's domination was for 10 years. Honda wrote him off with a knee injury and Suzuki ( Roger) built a dynasty . Ricky come back and beat Reed, That should be easy 4 the GOAT. Thanks for setting a benchmark that Reed and Bubba do not even pretend to be able to achieve.
June 9th, 2009 at 6:15 pm
you suck man, he was the fastest man on track
June 9th, 2009 at 6:16 pm
sorry, i replied to ·the one·
June 9th, 2009 at 6:22 pm
This season Suck!
Ryan and Mike are out of the season, that's not cool.
It's like the MX2 world motocross championship, it's like a european championship.
June 9th, 2009 at 7:07 pm
if stewart came in now and swept the rest of the series would he have enough points to win? that would be fun!
June 9th, 2009 at 7:12 pm
given that chad reed gets 2nd every moto in usually reed stewart style
June 9th, 2009 at 7:24 pm
Sorry about Alessi, but "wrapped up"? He rides over his head or if he does not he is not so awesomely fast. This is disguised a bit because of his starts. Any guy that had not won a race of any kind in 3 years and had never won a Pro championship of any kind is a shoo-in for not much after only 3 races. RV had a legit claim (many wins, numerous championships, hunted down MA like a wounded deer at GH) and it's only in his absence we are even having this conversation. Not to mention JS, Townley, Langston…
June 9th, 2009 at 7:24 pm
Too bad for Mike. No one should get hurt and knee injuries stink (both sides for me). Sadly, this was probably the year he needed to do it. Next year RV is back (and Mike has run out of classes to run away to), Dungey will be there, Pourcel then or the next year. JS, probably. Townley hopefully, to resume against RV. Mikey likely missed his window to win a championship, me thinks. All he needed to do was back it off 10%. You can't run mile pace in a marathon, but some guys never figure it out. They are more interested in "I yarded everybody, I am a superstar" than being a winner. Instead of yakking with JS, he ought to have studied DeCoster's career. Maybe next year, but I thenk the smarter bet is that that ship sailed.
June 9th, 2009 at 7:26 pm
After this news, Honda may actually have a chance at getting a title again…key word "may"
June 9th, 2009 at 7:28 pm
as a man somewhere between youth and adult, my answer to your question is that for the most part, the respectable adults you may be and wish for these punks to be haven't taught them anything.. in today's society if all you know is what you hear and see online and on tv then your morals are totally F***ed
June 9th, 2009 at 7:32 pm
i wouldnt mind seeing that when he first started, he was pretty arrogant. but he's wised up a lot since then. he's still not my favorite, but stewart is the cockiest prick out there right now, deservingly or not, arrogance is stupidity as far as im concerned
June 9th, 2009 at 7:42 pm
Hrmmm… Where the heck did Lawrence go? Looks like MX2 is the only good battle now…
June 9th, 2009 at 9:01 pm
HEY BUDDY LIKE YOU HAVE ROOM TO SAY ANYTHING
June 9th, 2009 at 9:02 pm
dude ur a f***ing asshole i hope your prick ass wrecks
June 9th, 2009 at 10:00 pm
this could have been windhams year, even with alessi racing. too bad the big 14 isnt out there. and for the record nobody can put alessi in the same conversation as carmichael or stewart. they are both accomplished champions, like them or not, and alessi hasnt done one thing yet so have some respect for those who are truly gifted as compared to those who were just getting lucky.
June 9th, 2009 at 10:10 pm
thats a pretty good excuse for losing!! i'll have to use that one from now on when i lose races, yeah guys i was just saving my wins for some other time. please.
June 10th, 2009 at 12:16 am
happy birthday reedy!!!
June 10th, 2009 at 12:48 am
oh man nationals is a killer!
June 10th, 2009 at 1:28 am
Hey now someone else can get a holeshot. Well the series is up for grabs….Go Shorty.
June 10th, 2009 at 1:43 am
I think the bikes are getting way too dangerous or may be they should change tracks. Ever since change to 4 strokes everyone is getting hurt. Broc Hepler has never finished A SEASON and now Alessi seem to be following Bhep. Bring back 2 strokes even if its the 500cc's
June 10th, 2009 at 1:49 am
JG 33!!! MAKE IT HAPPEN!!! TIME TO STEP YOUR GAME UP BROTHA
June 10th, 2009 at 3:50 am
your such an asshole. he doesnt ride over his head, thats just his style.
June 10th, 2009 at 10:28 am
Funny… everyone makes comments about Mike and all his problems… but i bet theres not one poster here that could keep his pace for one lap and stay strong for the entire day, he has to try keep world class pase the hole day.
Hipercrits.
I was really batting for mike this year even though i like Reed because im an OZY… Mike will get his turn.
Get well soon buddy.
June 10th, 2009 at 4:05 pm
Wow, some of you guys talking "smack" need to shut up. Mike is a sick rider, along with all the other racers in the AMA. "The way he rides over his head all the time?" Everyone has their own style right? And you know that old saying, you learn from your mistakes? Well i dont know if some of you guys didn't watch Glen Helen, but Mike HAD the second moto in the bag, he was "running a marathon" and started to drop his pace. Bad decision as RV came with incredible speed! I think if Mike woulda kept his pace he woulda won. Yes RV is incredibly fast, but Mike had a 16 second lead, if not more! With few remaining laps… I love the comments "Reed wins by default." Sarcasm guys! Reed is a phenominal rider, lets give him credit! Like he(Reed) said, he DID NOT train for the outdoor season, he didnt even know he was gonna race it until a week before it started! I dont know about you guys, but these guys are way faster then me, so I cant beak, and neither should you! Good work AMA riders, keep it up! Your living the dream that I wish I could.
June 10th, 2009 at 4:11 pm
I am with Eric!
June 10th, 2009 at 5:21 pm
TRUE DAT!!!!
June 10th, 2009 at 5:24 pm
What are you talking about?
June 10th, 2009 at 5:26 pm

June 10th, 2009 at 6:24 pm
wow, this just made the season 100 times better. no RV or alessi domination. its anyones game now. were going to have the 07 season all over again lol
June 10th, 2009 at 6:30 pm
james stewart/larry brooks/mike alessi, the three most egocentrics persons of the US MX, it’s a pleasure to see all of them OUT for the MX National!, the trio on the same team one day? the San Manual Bas…ds Mission team?
Go Short, Go Reed, Go Grant and all the others riders and teams…
June 10th, 2009 at 7:02 pm
u would fade faster than him even now hes got a broken knee so keep ur trap shut wen ur goin 1-1 in the 450 class then feel free to explain u goon
June 10th, 2009 at 9:30 pm
wow the 450 class is going to suck
June 11th, 2009 at 2:08 am
damn that sucks. i don't like how even when the headline is "alessi's out," people still bring on the hate for Reed. it's irrelavent. I bet once he settles in he could have given alessi a run for his money, but neither of them could have touched villopoto. sucks to see all the top talent gone by the first 3 races.
June 11th, 2009 at 3:53 am
ha to bad RV2 faded faster if thats how you fags are gonna talk about professional riders you guys are a fuckin joke get a life homos
June 11th, 2009 at 3:54 am
ha RV2 faded before Alessi so keep talking shit its unfortunant what hapened
June 11th, 2009 at 6:47 pm
eric your a dumbass!!
June 11th, 2009 at 9:35 pm
I guess you idiots that are bad mouthing Mike Alessi have to make up for the lack of skills on the track. Lets face it if you could ride alongside people like Reed, Stewart, Alessi and the rest of the top riders in the world you wouldn’t waist your time spouting excrement from your mouth, but I guess your making up for the size of something. Get well Mike and come back strong.
June 11th, 2009 at 9:47 pm
True, I am a Reed fan as well, but I think Alessi would have provided some interesting racing if he had stayed in the game; he was going strong and getting better every race.
June 12th, 2009 at 3:12 am
then the next time you ride get 30 pounds of bubble wrap and wrap you self
June 12th, 2009 at 7:24 pm
i hope next year JS7 RV2 and MA800 race all season long and RV2 wins the championship!
June 12th, 2009 at 8:20 pm
the problem with the youth of today is they have been watching their parents!
June 12th, 2009 at 10:01 pm
I've been at Glen Helen on Saturday during REM. Mike is a cool kid. Sure he's done some stupid stuff but he's matured and is humble with his fans. Anyone who talks shit on a forum needs to look inside themselves. Even when Tyler Evans was being a hard ass it was about image. You think this shit is for real. The only real part is how fast all these guys are, even the guy in 40th. So if you have nothing nice to say keep it to yourself. In the end you just look like a hater. And everyone out here in moto land thinks your a squid!
June 15th, 2009 at 1:14 am
Wrapped up? You dont race do you?
September 30th, 2009 at 3:25 pm
VEgFMC I want to say - thank you for this!

I have a 10yr old grandson who has been racing 3 mths. He was racing at a track in Texas where Mike was racing pro. My son took my grandson over to meet Mike. He couldn't have been nicer! He gave my son and grandson a shirt then autographed it. He didn't have to give them the time of day but he went over and above. The next day my grandson went to Mike's trailer and Mike took a picture of him and my grandson. It was the sweetest thing anyone could have done. So all of you be careful with your remarks. What I've seen of this young man is exceptional!
