Product: Acerbis Infinity Roost Deflector
Application: Upper body roost protection
Colors: Blue, White, Red, Black
Price: $139.95
Key Features:
-Removable front and rear upper panels for use with a neck brace
-Removable upper arm guards
-Designed to be worn over or under a jersey
-Made for riders in the 140-185 lbs. and 5’4-6’0 range
What We Liked:
-Very light weight and simple construction.
-Simple buckle system with no moving parts.
-Removable front and rear panels make guard very comfortable when worn with a Leatt Brace.
-No extra bulk means the roost deflector is virtually unnoticeable on the track.
-Foam liner is quite comfy.
What We Didn’t Like:
-Why bother with the arm guards? They probably add an extra $30 to the cost of the protector and we never use them.
-Although the buckle system is simple, they can also be difficult to snap on properly and might be problematic in an emergency.
-Considering how basic the Infinity is, nearly 140 smackers seems a little steep.
What We Really Think:
When it comes to motocross, it is pretty much impossible to wear enough protection. The problem is finding a balance between sufficient protection and minimized bulk. Of all the hundreds of chest/roost guard designs we have seen through the years, the Acerbis Infinity Roost Deflector is certainly on the simpler side of things. If you do not notice something when you are out on the track, that is a good thing, and such was the case with the Infinity. After removing the front and back upper panels, the guard worked extremely well with a Leatt Brace and can even be used in lieu of the T-type strap that comes with the Leatts to help secure the brace. The Infinity is definitely worth checking out.

it looks like the thor`s sentinell, i wonder if its thinner….?
September 23rd, 2009 at 8:12 pm
If by thinner you mean the plastic used in the construction, then yes it is. Its also slightly bigger. The sentinel barely reaches my belly button (I am 6'3) but the Infinity fits pretty well on me and I think will accommodate for a wider range of riders.

Just wondering, can you wear this under your jersey with a Leatt on top of your jersey? So, this, then jersey, then Leatt over everything.

I don't see why not. The photos above do not show the deflector with the top plates removed. Once they are removed though, the plastic in front and back start from about mid chest down…just below the front part of a Leatt brace.

140 bucks is a rip off you could just buy a thor sentinel for way cheaper and cut the plastic to fit your leatt

When its under the jersey does it look bulky at all?

?????? I see u say it will fit with the leatt when it is under the jersey but I bought a chest protector that goes under the jersey and it works with the leatt but it didnt??? Can yall test it under the jersey and with the leatt to see if it works

Here is an update on the Infinity Roost Deflector:
With all of the comments received so far I figured I would test out the Infinity under a jersey, and we just so happened to go riding today. First thing I notice: never leave your chest protector out in the sun before riding. Although the foam was still nice and cool since it is white, the little black tabs were scorching and felt like little hot pokers. Her are some other noteworthy points:
-Thanks to the softer-than-normal foam, the Infinity is very comfortable directly against your skin.
-Again, the upper plates are removed so moving around in the Infinity and putting on a jersey were no issue at all.
-The consensus in the pits was that no one could tell I even had a chest protector on under the jersey.
-I typically use the T-strap that comes with the Leatt, but figure I would try it without. Although I could not use the shoulder strap from the Infinity to secure my Leatt as I normally would when wearing the protector over the jersey, my neck brace did not seem to move around very much at all. This is possibly because the small amount of foam between the brace and Infinity took up some extra volume that normally would have let my brace move around.
-Overall I would say this brace works very well when worn either over or under a jersey.

Is a chest protector even worth buying? I never see the pro's rocking them. Thanks.

how much do you value intact ribs?
Ive seen a guy get landed on from above and behind, he was wearing a chest protector and leatt, and while he was taken to the hospital i was told the doctors said with out the protector and leatt, he would have in all likelyhood broken his upper back/neck, high potential of paralysis.
your call.

While the pros are great to watch if you want to improve your riding style, don't take all of your cues from them. Keep in mind that for one, the top riders move around on the bike a whole lot more than your average rider and can find chest protectors to be restricting. Unfortunately sponsor exposure is also very important and chestpros tend to cover that up. In the outdoor nationals, more riders wear underprotectors than you might realize. Motocross is inherently dangerous…protect yourself before you wreck yourself!

Have you seen any wear in the plastic because i've been through two thor sentinal this year because the plastic cracks or it falls apart and most of the time its not from crashing.
September 28th, 2009 at 10:18 am
from the looking at that awefully cheesy vid it looks like they haven't even taken off the plastic uppers to wear the leatt.
September 28th, 2009 at 4:56 pm
No cracking yet and I cannot imagine there will be. The Sentinel uses a much harder, more brittle plastic than the Acerbis protector. Plastics, afterall, are one of Acerbis specialties.
