Irvine, Calif. — Monster Energy Kawasaki has signed four-time AMA Champion Chad Reed to compete in the AMA Supercross and AMA Motocross championships. Reed joins Ryan Villopoto on Kawasaki’s factory team with both riders racing the Kawasaki KX450F.

“Chad is going to bring a lot to our team,” said Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Manager Mike Fisher. “He has proven to be the most consistent rider this decade and his record speaks for itself. We have high expectations for both Chad and Ryan and I know they are going to do their best to meet them.”

Reed returns to a green bike after having ridden for the Kawasaki European Factory Team in 2001 where he won the Dutch Grand Prix. In the eight years since, the 27-year-old rider has amassed an impressive resume including an AMA Supercross Lites East Coast crown (2002), two AMA Supercross titles (2004, ‘08), and most recently the 2009 AMA Motocross championship. During that time he has won 38 times in AMA Supercross competition, five overall AMA National Motocross events, and he has earned an impressive 105 AMA Supercross podium finishes.

“The Kawasaki KX450F is a great bike,” said Reed. “I have already had a chance to ride and race it. I’m really impressed.”

Reed is currently leading the Monster Energy Super X, an Australian Supercross Series championship.

  • FRO16 Says:

dont worry, it doesnt matter what bike chad reed is on. he will lose to james stewart. end of story. only bubba can beat james

  • wow Says:

    WTF? ARE YOU SERIOUS? WHAT?

  • Dan Says:

It's a job, it's about $$$$. No brainer especially when you are nearing the end of your career. Who pays the most, bring it on and he'll ride iy and he'll do well. It's going to be quite the team!

  • sx375 Says:

chads gonna win no problem indoors and out

  • Chad Reed Says:

Agreed I can't win heads up

  • Chad Reed Says:

Ya as long as all the good guys get hurt i got this

  • Jarrett Says:

It's going to take both of these guys to push each other in practice during the week to have a prayer of keeping up with Stewart. I hope they do so the season doesn't suck, but #7 looks CRAZY fast on that new Yami!

  • pcyam983 Says:

ok, does anyone remember a little fast dude on named ricky? How many times did Chad Reed beat the GREATEST OF ALL TIME straight up in a race? Chad Reed came along, and made supercross interesting again. Chad Reed is fast, he isnt afraid to get down and race. Sure, people say "well reed is dirty and tried to take james out" I bet those same people said the same thing about james out doors against ricky. Remember those races?? Supercross wouldnt be the same with out Reed. He is a big key player, and more than capable of beating James. New bike or not. Without Reed, American supercross would be a one man show. Chad gets in there and battles, and will not back down. Its going to be a good season to watch. Good luck to the REED and RED DRAGONS

  • rmz361 Says:

Your last comment is very true cuz thats bubbas only downfall. He rides over his head sometimes so i think reed and rv2 stand a chance

  • Jack Mehoff Says:

The only problem is that now reardon is faster than him to

  • A BROC HEPLER FAN Says:

  • davin 806 Says:

    i no rite

  • Pcyam983 Says:

Who was at bercy other than James? Don’t make it sound like reardon beating reed makes reed suck. Reardon has always been fast. He was on a lites bike and hurt over here. And to that last comment, there is no reason to use the n bomb you jackass! Red dragons!!!

  • surfersnackwrap Says:

James is too busy with guitar hero, red dragon is fast overseas, reed or rv could do it with any luck, look out for grant, brayton, RD, and guys like hot sauce, GL, shorty, and DM18 "live laugh love" Davi Millsappy might show they are worth something… might. snackwrap out

  • Quinton Smith Says:

Man i hate Chad Reed, he is such a cry baby and now he is on one of the best bikes there is so there better not be any excuses this supercross season. I never thought i would see Reed on a kawi so this better be good.

  • Quinton Smith Says:

I hear what you say broski, Stewart is lookin fast on the yami and Reed better be puttin in the hours if he wants a chance at the title this year.

  • sefro Says:

this is so true! nothing wrong with a quacker anyways - end of the day all bikes are awesome!

  • martydbb Says:

    what happened to Tim Ferry?

  • webbie Says:

rc could jump right back in the mix and still clean house. no problem. but thats a dream to see i guess! yes i hope this is an interesting season, fastpace,technical,bar-banging, with non stop action racing!!!! that is what the fans want. keep pushing the pace chad.,hot sauce,shorty,alessi,k-dub ? thats what makes for a bigger crowd indoors and outdoors. i love motorcross. ( lets see an all out 2-stroke race!!! 1-time, would be awsome. ) hey is Ezra lusk coming back?

  • reed fan Says:

well i think reed can win but i think james has the uper hand. the new yamaha is bad add and could smoke the kawasaki so reed is going to have to be on his game if he wants to win……….

  • Aaron Says:

I really don't think it has to do with the bikes at this point. The factory sponsers have them so moded up they are all pretty much the same. I think it will come down to the riders and who can stay on two wheels the most

  • Flying Kiwi Says:

I think Reed will come second to Stewart although Bubba is more likely to push himself to crashing if he gets a shitty start and may end his season early. . The Bikes are all very similar at this level. Remember it is the guidance system more than the rocket . I sure hope Bubba mans up and does the outdoors with RV and CR keeping him honest >

  • phil Says:

are you hearing what you are saying?.Reed has never beat stewart.like the other guy said only bubba can beat stewart

  • REED Says:

chad reed will beat bubba this year cause he got to practice in nationals.

  • REED Says:

james will get beat by reed and you know it

  • jkhjiohui9nb Says:

    ur stupid

  • Sydney Says:

I love chad :) he's the best on any bike.

  • Andy Schmuch Says:

bubba needs to have an accident,an accident that will put him out agian and make him cry like a girl, like two years ago

  • Andy Schmuch Says:

yah, reember wen jamses team mate took reed out, thats the only reason he lost SX 09

  • speeddemon09 Says:

reed and VP 1st and 2nd… James is a over glorified racer he can ride fast but damn he sucks!! he falls almost every race he is not consistent.. James will not do out door larry brooks does not like out door thats why reed didn't run under him once he left yamaha he ran out doors.. just my 2 cents :)

  • racer 157 Says:

I would have to agree James is consistant at one thing crashing and racing dirty. Reed is the man he don’t put the blame on every body else unlike someone. james is like a two year old if it dont go his way he runs off the track crying then blames who evers around him. enough about james good luck chad
