Supercross Main Event
Ryan Dungey grabbed another holeshot, followed closely by Ryan Villopoto and Austin Stroupe. James Stewart and Chad Reed started around 13th place and both had their work cut out for them. Josh Hill made his way past Austin Stroupe as Villopoto kept Dungey in his sights. Further back, Ivan Tedesco held down fifth followed by Andrew Short and Justin Brayton.
About a quarter of the way into the race, Stewart and Reed were battling together through the pack, and the two riders came together, both going down. Stewart was unable to get back on his bike immediately. Reed kept his bike running, but as it turned out, Reed reportedly injured his hand in the crash. Reed pulled out of the race a lap later as Stewart remounted in 19th position to continue the race.
Out front, Ryan Dungey and Ryan Villopoto were separating themselves from third place Josh Hill. Dungey’s lead was not enough for comfort, with Villopoto only one second off the leader.
Stroupe had to contend with Tedesco, who eventually passed the Supercross class rookie, with Short not far behind. Way towards the back, Stewart gutted out pass after pass, working his way eventually up to 15th place.
Out front, Dungey continued to gap Villopoto and ride uncontested, eventually pushing on to his first ever Supercross class win in only four attmepts.
