Practice here at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas has concluded for the day. The track is dry and likely to become very hard-packed for tonight’s racing. Dirt Wurx did their best to keep water down, however, it didn’t take long for the heat and windy weather to turn the track into a dust bowl. As the day has progressed the wind has begun to die down slightly and with the temperatures dropping the moisture should remain in the track longer this evening.
In the Lites class, the East Coast reigned surpreme as the class champion Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki Christophe Pourcel turned in the quickest lap with a time of 1:04.737. Behind him was Geico Powersports/Honda’s Trey Canard with a time of 1:05.540. Completing the podium was Pourcel’s teammate and West Coast Lites Champion Jake Weimer with a time of 1:05.635. Last week’s winner Josh Hansen—he has also been the heavy favorite—qualified fifth with a time of 1:06.966.
Qualifying in the Supercross class saw Rockstar/Makita/Suzuki’s Ryan Dungey turn in the fastest lap with a time of 1:02.419. Behind him was the winner of the previous two rounds Geico Powersports/Honda’s Kevin Windham. Third best time went to Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Chad Reed with a time of 1:04.171.
