We are five rounds deep into the Lucas Oil Motocross Championship as we head into Red Bud this 4th of July weekend. But first, let’s review some more of the action form this weekend’s race at the pristine Thunder Valley track in Lakewood, CO.
Since incredible opening performance at Hangtown, Eli Tomac has struggled a bit to find that same rhythm. He went 7-9 this weekend in his home state, and seems to be steadily regaining momentum.
No one can question Josh Grant’s speed; just about every moto he reminds us how good he really is. For whatever reason, though, the gods will not allow him to put together two solid motos. After winning the first moto, Grant was visited by bad luck yet again. A first turn pile-up left Grant back in 40th, but he still managed to fight his way back to 10th and salvage fourth place overall.
WMX racer Elizabeth Bash has a break in her shoulder and could not race this weekend. It didn’t stop her, however, from taking a spot up in the announcing booth and assisting with the trackside commentating.
Ben Townley was sporting a new under-protector from Shock Doctor this weekend. Early in the year, Ben wore a traditional chest protector, but has since switched to this one. He seems to really like it. It’s big enough to run on the outside of the jersey as well, and is more rigid than some of the other under-protectors out there.
We missed Wil Hahn this weekend. He is out with an AC separation in his shoulder, and there is no word yet when we will see him back on the track.
Blake Wharton is finding his groove aboard his Geico Powersports Honda CRF250R. He went 6-5 this weekend for fifth overall, and is now eighth in points.
