250 MOTO 1
When the gates dropped for the first 250 moto of the day, it was Trey Canard aboard his Geico Powersports Honda. Points leader, Christophe Pourcel, however, found himself mired midpack. After the first lap, he sat tenth. His teammate, Dean Wilson, on the other hand, enjoyed an early second-place start behind Canard, with Jake Weimer and Justin Barcia in tow. Wilson’s luck was cut short, though, and he wrecked before two laps were in the books.
His teammates, Tyla Rattray and Pourcel, quickly gained ground. By mid-moto, it was Canard out front, followed by Weimer, Barcia, Wharton, Rattray, and Pourcel.

Disaster struck Barcia, as bike issues kept him from continuing racing (we’ve heard something fuel-injection related). So while JB putted back to the mechanics area, Pourcel made his moves. Before long, the Frenchman was in third, right behind his teammate, Weimer. Late in the moto, Weimer conceded to his pressure, and Pourcel took over second. When all was said and done, Canard took the commanding win by around nine seconds, followed the Pro Circuit rides of Pourcel and Weimer.

250 MOTO 2
With a light breeze cooling the 90-plus degree temperatures, the 250s blasted off the line for the final moto of the day. Following in Shorty’s footsteps, Trey Canard doubled up holeshots, with Pourcel and Rattray close behind. Jake Weimer and Justin Barcia fought bar to bar early on just off the leader’s pace. Barcia would make a mistake, however, leaving the door open for Martin Davalos and Blake Wharton. With three laps clicked off, Canard, Pourcel, and Rattray had settled into the top three spots respectively. A few positions back, Tommy Searle had his hands full with young Eli Tomac, and by mid-moto, Tomac was able to get around the Englishman. Up front, Canard continued to build on his lead on Pourcel, just Rattray gained on his teammate. Weimer and Wharton staked claim to the four and five spots, while Davalos maintained sixth.
Late in the moto, Weimer disappeared from the guys up front due to a crash, and Wharton snuck in to the fourth position. Tomac tried to reel in Davalos, but he had his hands full with Dean Wilson, who had made his way around Searle. Wilson made short work of the Geico Powersports rookie, and actually started reeling in Davalos, who had made some distance between himself and sixth. Provided a few extra laps, Wilson may have caught and passed him.
In the end, Canard took his third straight win, going 1-1 on the day, followed by teammates Pourcel and Rattray. Those second-moto results would carry onto the overall as well.
