Monday Kickstart Presented by ONE Industries – Washougal

With eight rounds recorded into the 2010 Lucas Oil Motocross Championship history book, it looks as though a rookie will not just win the 450 championship, but will likely wrap it up early. Ryan Dungey has absolutely owned the outdoor Nationals this season, with the exception of Hangtown due to some Supercross burnout, and seems to continue getting faster and more patient. Honda Red Bull Racing’s Andrew Short, meanwhile, has mastered the start as of late, and racks up as many holeshots as Dungey does moto wins.
In the 250 class, Christophe Pourcel has been enjoying his own sizable points lead, but as of late, Trey Canard has made a hard charge, taking three straight overall wins, keeping the Frenchman on his toes and not allowing him to get too comfortable in the lead. Here’s how the points chase is looking after eight rounds..

It was definitely hot at Washougal (90-plus degrees), but at least the was no humidity, like that of the east coast rounds. The track was amazing, as usual, and there was a huge fan turnout.

Although it was announced that Washougal would be a themed retro race, only a few folks participated. MotoConcepts went all out on their graphics, paying homage to the black-and-yellow days of Yamaha.

Fox definitely did the retro theme justice with their throwback gear, which included this one-off V-3 with the original Fox head.

We spotted Kevin Windham chatting it up with Kevin Strikwerda, Scott’s new marketing coordinator, and Roger Larsen who had a brand-spanking new set of MSR gear for the veteran. Windham definitely still knows how to start, as he shot off the line with top-three starts both motos. If he can build his fitness up over the two-week break, he will be a factor at Unadilla for sure.
