Moto 1
To no one’s surprise, Ashley Fiolek jumped out ahead of her competition, leading the field through the first turn, followed closely by Jessica Patterson, Mariana Balbi and Tarah Geiger. Patterson nearly had the holeshot herself but fell while trying to hug the inside line, dropping all the way back to last place.
Meanwhile, Fiolek put in some fast laps right off the bat that immediately gave her some breathing room on the rest of the field. Geiger was able to work her way around Balbi about halfway through the moto, but it was Patterson who had the most impressive moves, recovering brilliantly from her first turn incident. The DNA Shred Stix rider managed to work her way into to fourth place in only two laps. Balbi was the rider who gave Patterson the most trouble, shutting down several pass attempts before relinquishing her position. Geiger was next to fall back and Patterson would finish out the moto in second with Fiolek taking top honors.
Moto 2
The start was nearly identical to the first moto, but while Fiolek took the holeshot, Patterson, this time, was able to remain on two wheels and then made short work of her series rival. Out front it seemed Patterson would have an easy win as, but that was not the case.
Fiolek picked up her speed, reinvigorate by her chance at an overall win. Soon enough she closed back in on Jessica and would make a very aggressive move on her Florida neighbor in a downhill turn that sent JP off the track. Not willing to be pushed around, Patterson caught back up and passed Fiolek only one lap later. But that was not the end of the story.
The two fought tooth and nail for the remainder of the race with Fiolek attempting another stuff move. However, the move was attempted a little too late and Fiolek wound up jumping right into patterson in the final turn within a stone’s throw of the finishline. The two riders made contact but only Ashley went down, and Patterson went on to take the overall with her 2-1 over Fiolek’s 1-2.
