Jessica Patterson basically had the championship in hand heading into Pala and really only needed to score four points to take the championship. Instead she opted to dominate the first WMX moto. Fiolek gave it her best effort but actually fell on the first lap. She eventually finished second in the moto and even took the overall win but the damage was already done.
The crowd was sizable to say the least, easily in the tens of thousands. Unlike most rounds, fans also stuck around for the entire day of racing, so the even the WMX race had fans lining the entire track.
