Monday Kickstart Presented by One Industries

This weekend was a big one for the freestyle side of our sport, as the second annual AFMXA Amateur contest and AFMXA Ramp Awards went off at Pala Raceway and Pala Casino, respectively. Our buddy Casey Davis was on hand during the daytime contest portion of the event, while swap and Lutes hit up the evening’s festivities at the casino.

Casey is up first…

Saturday, December 4 marked the Pala Raceway round of the AFMXA series. The day started out pretty cold, but with the amount of great riders, the day would no doubt warm up. There was a huge turn-out of riders, and with people such as Garrett Ahlf, Derek Cook and Bryce Hudson on hand, the day was sure to be awesome. With the sweet smell of 2-strokes in the air, the day’s event began.

Also at the event was the Legends Live Forever foundation, which supports the great Mike Cinqmars. It was a real treat too, because Mike’s bike was on display, bright and shiny red plastics and all. Also on display was the classic photograph of Cinqmars jumping his enormous house, which was a great edition to the booth.

The event had three separate classes: the Novice class, the Amateur class and the always exciting Pro-Am class. Two separate ramps were set up, one ramp set at about 55 feet for the Novice riders, and the other set at the usual 75 feet for the Amateur and Pro-Am riders. Competitors from each class would go out two at a time, and each rider would get two runs each during their qualifiers. After a process of elimination, the huge amount of riders trickled down to the best for the finals from each class. It was an incredible day of riding and spectating for everyone. With the exception of two people going down in their runs, every rider out there killed it.

It’s really great to see how much of an impact the AFMXA is having on the Freestyle Motocross community, and with the continuing support of this association, the sport will only grow from here.
