Race Report – Monster Energy Supercross: San Diego

SUPERCROSS

When the rain started to fall in the 450 main event, it was Chad Reed who went side by side with Andrew Short into the first corner. Reed was able to hold off the KTM rider, though, and he grabbed the holeshot. Honda’s Trey Canard quickly started to make his Reed, and the two engaged in a serious battle. As the battle wore on, Canard was able to get around Reed, and he took the lead. Right when Canard was starting to pull away from the pack, he made a mistake and went down in a turn. Reed and James Stewart made their way around the Honda rider, but Canard remounted in fourth and quickly started to put in some work again. Heat One winner, Ryan Villopoto, went down on the first lap, and was in dead last. Without a front number plate and a rear fender, Villopoto started to quickly move through the pack.

Reed continued to ride smart throughout the race, and he started to pull away from the field. Stewart stalled his bike in a corner, and he fell back into fourth. Dungey and Canard ran in the number two and three spots. Once again, though, Canard fell, and Stewart moved back into third. At the end of the 20-lap main, Chad Reed took his first win for Two Two Motorsports. Dungey held onto the number two spot, and Stewart topped off the box in third.
