Race Report – Monster Energy Supercross: Indianapolis

SUPERCROSS
The long start straight into a tight left handed hair pin turn was the deciding factor in the race, as every top five start came from a rider that was able to stay tight around the inside blocks. The main event was no different, as Ryan Villopoto and TwoTwo Motorsports’ owner Chad Reed were dead even as they crossed the line, but Villopoto got the holeshot and stormed away to a blistering twenty lap riding clinic. Never pressured and with a clear track ahead, RV notched another win and three more points to his season statistics. Meanwhile behind the Kawasaki, Chad Reed and defending champion Ryan Dungey battled tooth and nail for second place with a barrage of massive jumps and clean pass attempts. It all came to an end when Dungey clipped Reed with his Rockstar Makita Suzuki and hit the ground, allowing San Manuel Yamaha’s James Stewart to get by for third. Stewart, riding to make up points, worked his way by Reed incident free and dedicated the last portion of the race to closing in on Villopoto. But the lead was too massive, as Villopoto cruised away to another win while a visibly frustrated Stewart notched another runner up finish. After hitting the soil, Dungey had made his way back up to Reed’s rear wheel at the last lap, going for two passes in the last three turns, but Reed kept him at bay once again and landed on the podium.
