Glen Helen USGP – Qualifying

MX2 QUALIFYING

At the start of the MX2 qualifying race, Marvin Musquin led the pack into the Talledega, followed closely by Ken Roczen. Roczen jumped ahead of Musquin after the first lap, as did Jeffrey Herlings, which set Musquin back into third place. After two laps, KTM’s Roczen, Herlings, and Musquin took control of the top three. Behind the top three riders, Max Anstie and Zach Osborne battled it out for fourth, but Osborne ended up going down, and that opened up the gap between fourth and fifth tremendously. By the time the two-lap board came out, Roczen had over 13 seconds on Herlings. It was a smooth race for Roczen, as he crossed the finish in first with a 12-second lead on Herlings. Musquin, Anstie, and Gautier Paulin finished off the top five.

In the press conference Roczen said, “I felt good, but I didn’t get the start that I wanted. I just rode a smart race, and I didn’t want to do anything special. It was a sketchy track, like some of the other riders said. I feel really good in America, and after my win in Vegas, I feel really confident. I think tomorrow is going to be a fun day, so we’ll see what happens.” Musquin went on to say, “It felt amazing to be on the gate today. My knee feels strong now, and it’s getting better. My start was amazing, and I was happy for myself as well as my KTM team.”
