Race Report: Hangtown National

WMX
The WMX was lucky enough to draw the final moto of the day, so they were left with an incredibly beat up track to negotiate. As you may have guessed, Ashley Fiolek and Jessica Patterson battled it out for holeshots in both motos, JP$ narrowly snagging both of them up.
In the first moto, Fiolek had the holeshot within grasp, but overshot the turn, leaving the door open for Patterson to sneak by and check out. MXGP import Steffi Laier made the trip over to Hangtown to race while the womens class is on hiatus, and she pressured Fiolek early, but Fiolek held on to clinch second place behind her rival Patterson. Troy Lee Designs Honda’s Tarah Gieger settled into her now usual spot behind Fiolek and Patterson, but she would settle for fourth, due to the addition of Laier to the line-up who took third in the first WMX moto.
When the gate dropped for the second and final WMX moto, it seemed it would play out much the same as the first, but after winning the holeshot, Patterson dumped the bike over a hay bale, allowing Laier and Fiolek to take over first and second respectively. Patterson, however, remounted her DNA-Shred Stix/Star Yamaha and hastily rejoined the race. She caught back up to third in absolutely no time, and spent equally little time retaking the lead. She easily took the win, starting where she left off last season.
