With beautiful weather yet again, the second day of Pirelli Vet Racing at the Monster Energy Mammoth Motocross concluded with racing action that rivaled the first day.

After getting a flat rear tire and losing the second moto and overall in the Vet 30-Plus Pro class on Saturday, Ryan Hughes went 1-1 today for the overall ahead of Jeremy McGrath.

As was the case on Saturday, the class to watch was the Vet 30-Plus Pro, which featured heated battles in both motos between Honda’s Jeremy McGrath and Yamaha-mounted Ryan Hughes. The first moto saw McGrath jump out to the early lead, however, an aggressive pass by Hughes was all it took for Ryno to get into the lead and open up a gap. From there, Hughes rode away with the win uncontested. McGrath finished second while Honda-mounted Timmy Weigand completed the podium.
The start of the second moto was nearly a carbon copy of the first, as McGrath got out to the early lead before Hughes was able to get around the Honda rider. Once into the lead, Hughes never relinquished it—even as McGrath continued to put pressure on him for the entire race. Behind the two leaders, Weigand once again held down a comfortable third-place position. When the checkered flag flew, Hughes took a hard fought win followed closely by McGrath. Weigand finished third with Sleeter fourth. Hughes’ 1-1 score was good enough for the day’s overall win followed by McGrath with a 2-2 score.
In other racing, DRD’s Doug Dubach once again dominated both motos of action in the Senior 40-Plus Expert division, while Jim Holley did likewise in the Masters 50-Plus A class. In the Vet 30-Plus class, Ryan Abler took the win after grabbing the holeshot and pulling out to a comfortable lead. In Vet 30-Plus Junior class, Brian Davis took a wire-to-wire victory, leading from start to finish.
