Monster Energy Mammoth Motocross – DC Open Pro

Despite strong wind and a few dust storms, the Monster Energy Mammoth Motocross – DC Open Pro racing was not deprived of some great racing.

The racing action got underway bright and early this morning, and we saw some great action from the women, schoolboy, and 25+ classes. However, all eyes were patiently waiting for the final moto of the day, which featured the likes of Ryan Hughes, Justin Bogle, Chris Plouffe, and others in the open pro class.

When the gate dropped for the open pro 10-lap main event, it was Plouffe who grabbed the holeshot with Geico Powersports-backed Justin Bogle close behind. After the completion of lap one, Plouffe was still in control, but he had a hard-charging Bogle breathing down his neck with Kawasaki-mounted Nate Tierney running in third place, and Timmy Weigand in fourth. On lap two, Bogle made his move on Plouffe to take control of the lead and did his best to separate himself from the rest of the field. A few corners behind the top two, Hughes, who suffered from a mediocre start, made several passes to garner the third position and then began setting his sights on Plouffe and Bogle.

After eight laps, the top three had separated themselves from Vance & Hines rider, Preston Tilford, who found his way around Weigand, Tierney, and others to take control of the fourth position. Bogle would manage to maintain a four-second lead between himself and second place rider, Plouffe, who was putting in a hell of a ride to make sure Hughes would not be able to make a charge at him late in the moto. At the conclusion of the 10-lap open pro main event, it was Bogle who captured the win with Plouffe in second, and Hughes rounding out the podium.
