The fifth round of the 2011 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship from Thunder Valley MX Park featured another weekend of intense competition amongst the fastest riders on the planet, in front of thousands of fans who lined the mountainside surrounding the facility.
After several instances in which he just missed out on the overall win, Rockstar/Makita Suzuki’s Ryan Dungey broke through with his first victory of the 2011 season. The reigning 450 Class Champion outlasted Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto in the final moto to post 2-1 results on the day, and overtake his rival based on the Moto 2 tiebreaker.
In the 250 Class, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Blake Baggett helped extend the dominance that has been displayed this season by Mitch Payton’s team. Additionally, Baggett’s sweep of the day’s motos garnered him his third overall win in five rounds of racing, bringing him closer to the battle for the 250 Class title.
In the return of the WMX Class, Jessica Patterson bounced back from a rough outing at the previous stop of the Motorcycle-Superstore.com Women’s Motocross Championship. The defending WMX Champion dominated both of the day’s motos to land her second victory in three rounds.
