450 Moto One
450 point leader Chad Reed grabbed the holeshot over Minnesota native Ryan Dungey in the first moto, and while that is the order they would finish in, the race was not without its share of excitement. The distance between the two would fluctuate over the course of the moto, as lappers and line choices would allow one to gain an advantage over the other and vice versa. Dungey was able to close the gap on Reed on numerous occasions, but slower riders and a mistake in the infamous sand whoops cost him a significant amount of time on the 22 bike, and he would finish fourteen second behind Reed at the flag.
After another lackluster start, Ryan Villopoto was forced to rip through the pack of riders in a bid for the podium. The title contender was scored his sixth place during the opening laps and found stable mate Jake Weimer, longtime rival KTM Red Bull’s Mike Alessi, and the just cleared to race Trey Canard standing between him and the podium. As just minutes remained on the clock, Villopoto would make a final pass on Alessi and secured the third place position.

Ryan Villopoto repeated his Red Bud second moto holeshot at Spring Creek over Chad Reed and Ryan Dungey and it seemed that a battle royal was soon to take place. But after a vicious get off that threw Reed 30 feet in the air and onto the ground breathless, the overall was open for either Villopoto or Dungey. Villopoto and Dungey shared many of the same lines, but Villopoto seemed to power out of the sticky ruts better than the Suzuki pilot. Lap after lap, the fans in attendance cheered on defending champion Dungey as he began to reel in Villopoto who was being slowed by lapped riders. The two battled bar to bar into a soft turn, but Villopoto’s momentum would be his down fall, as he was unable to maneuver his bike into the desired line and hit a section of soft sand. And with that, Ryan Dungey was now the leader and overall winner for the day.
