Monday Kickstart – Unadilla National

The Unadilla National was live this weekend, but here’s some stuff you might have missed from the ninth round of the Lucas Oil AMA Motocross Championship series.

Team USA was announced over the weekend for the MXoN, and Blake Baggett was selected as one of the riders to represent our country. Team USA has won the Motocross des Nations for the past six years, and this year that will be returning to France at Saint Jean D’Angely.

Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto may not have gotten the starts that he needed in both 450 motos, but that didn’t seem to phase him one bit. Once RV got out front, it was all over from there as he took a commanding victory in both motos. The Unadilla National was also Ryan’s birthday. Happy birthday again, Ryan.

2011 couldn’t have gone any better for the rookie, Justin Bogle. After securing numerous amateur titles, he headed to Loretta Lynn’s and won the coveted Horizon Award. Confidence kept the young Geico rider rolling into Unadilla for his first pro race, and it showed. Bogle was able to battle it out within the top three a few times, but he mentioned after the race that he needs to work on his endurance. Nevertheless, a top-five finish is a great way to start off his pro career.

It’s been quite the year for American Honda. In the outdoors, Josh Grant made his return at Budds Creek, but after an injury at Thunder Valley, Grant was back on the sidelines. A couple of rounds later, Trey Canard made his return at Millville, but broke his femur at the very next round. So, Justin Barcia got the call to jump up to a 450, and he took the opportunity right away.
