Monday Kickstart

The Lucas Oil AMA Motocross Championship took a well-deserved break this weekend to recover after an exciting Unadilla race last weekend, but there is always something cooking in the motocross world, even when AMA racing is vacationing. In MXGP action, KTM had a big weekend, as both Tony Cairoli and Ken Roczen took wins in their respective classes at the GP of Great Britain.

Red Bull Teka KTM Factory Racing Ken Roczen snatched up his eighth GP victory of the season and he opened his points lead on second place Jeff Herlings to 43 points. He easily took the overall with 1-1 finishes at Matterley Basin in Great Britain. The young German is now in striking distance of wrapping up his first MX2 title a round early in front of his home crowd in Gaildorf, Germany.

Antonio Cairoli scored his fifth win of the season this weekend at the GP of Germany, and is damn close to wrapping up another MX1 title. His 3-1 finishes were enough to capture the overall win from Christophe Pourcel, who went 1-3. A crash in the second moto kept Pourcel from grabbing his first race win in 2011.

The second MX1 moto was red flagged after Tanel Leok and Billy Mackenzie crashed fighting for the sixth position. Leok landed on Mackenzie’s back wheel, sending both into the dirt. Reportedly, neither one was seriously injured in the crash.

Frenchman Christophe Pourcel finally returned to form this weekend in Britain, and would've likely took the overall win if he hadn't cased a jump and crashed in the second moto. He won the first moto ahead of Steven Frossard and Antonio Cairoli, and still managed to salvage third in the second, but Cairoli's win the in the second moto sealed the overall for the Italian ahead of Pourcel.
