Gavin Leachman, 10 Encinitas, CA Years Racing: 4-5 years Sponsors: Pro Circuit, Asterisk, NCY, ASV, No Toil, Motion Pro, Pirelli, Factory Backing
Gavin Leachman has been quietly making his way up through the mini ranks around California as well as making his way to some of the amateur nationals. Gavin contested the 0-11 85/150F class as well as the Open 85-150/Supermini class at the TWMX Winter Cup race series. In the 12 motos during the series in the 0-11 85/150F class, Leachman stood on the top step of the podium 8 times to take 4 overall wins out of the 6 rounds and easily clinching the series championship. In the Open 85-150/Supermini class he had several top 5 moto finishes and closed the series with a 3rd place in the points. The young Yamaha rider has quickly built his skills through mini racing and has transitioned to the bigger bikes very strong on his YZ85. We stopped by Gavin’s pit to see how how the inaugural TWMX series was for him.
You’ve raced all 6 rounds of the series, what do you think of it?
I think it is one of the best series out there, I can’t wait for the next series to start.
So you’re going to race the next series as well?
Yes, I will be there!
Besides the next series, what is your plans for the year?
We want to try to make it to Mammoth, World Mini and Loretta Lynn’s this year.
What is your goal going into Loretta Lynn’s?
I want a top 5 actually.
That is a strong goal. With that, what has been your biggest accomplishment so far in racing?
Going to Loretta’s, it’s fun and they awesome activities there. I did pretty good there, I was in the top 10 but I did fall. I worked back to 12th and ended with a 16th overall, so not that bad.
What else do you do besides racing?
I play basketball and I actually won a chess championship. I also like to ride my trials bike and drive my Traxxas a lot.
Anyone else besides your sponsors you’d like to thank?
Yes, my Mom and Dad and the Man up there.
