New Orleans SX 2012: Practice

Supercross is back underway in the Big Easy after the only two-week break of the series. Practice has just concluded, and we can safely say these racer guys go pretty fast on their dirt scooters. Red Bull KTM’s Ken Roczen was fastest in both Lites practice sessions, so he will have the first gate pick this evening. Geico Honda’s Justin Barcia and Justin Bogle were second and fourth fastest respectively, while Rockstar Suzuki’s Blake Wharton and Pro Circuit’s Blake Baggett rounded out the rest of the top five. In the big bike class, the 2012 champ Ryan Villopoto clicked off the fastest lap (no surprises there), and Rockstar Valli/Star Yamaha’s Nico Izzi broke into the top five with a 53.1 lap time. In other news, both Andrew Short and Ivan Tedesco made their returns to the race track after injuries sidelined them for the majority of the season. Speaking of injured riders, Kevin Windham valiantly attempted a lap of first practice, but unfortunately, it just wasn’t happening for the People’s Champ. Check out some photos, and then hit us up tonight for some race report action…
