DNA Energy Drink / Jeff Ward Racing rider Josh Grant dug deep Saturday night at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, UT for round 16 of the 2012 AMA Supercross season, an FIM World Championship, to give the team a top-10 finish by bringing home eighth in the SX Main. His teammate Kyle Chisholm experienced an unfortunate night after battling complications of a wrist injury and suffering problems with his bike’s forks in the Main that caused him to have to pull off. Chisholm would be left to finish 17th.
Leading up to the SX Main, Grant finished his SX Group A first qualifying practice ninth fastest with a lap time of 49.281. Chisholm, who was also in SX Group A finished his first qualifying practice 14th fastest with a lap time of 49.714. In their final SX Group A qualifying practice both teammates ended the session early due to complications of the injuries they’ve been riding through. Chisholm only ran six laps ending the session 17th while Grant only ran four laps ending the session 19th.
Their times from the first qualifying practice put Grant 18th fastest overall in SX Heat 1 and Chisholm 20th fastest overall also in SX Heat 1. Chisholm rode to an eighth place finish advancing to the SX Main while Grant rode to a 10th place finish leaving him to have to race his way in through the SX Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ). Grant went on to finish second in the LCQ solidifying a second entry in the SX Main for the DNA Energy Drink / Jeff Ward Racing team.
Chisholm’s 17th place finish in the SX Main keeps him 11th in series points with 143, eighteen points outside of the top-10. Grant’s eighth place finish moves him up one spot to 18th in series points. Up next for the DNA Energy Drink / Jeff Ward Racing team is the last race of the Supercross season in Las Vegas for round 17 on May 5th.
