At the final round of the 2012 Spring Cup series, there was a #59 Honda that was running away with moto wins with impressive speed in the intermediate classes. Dylan Merriam was riding very smooth and picking perfect lines around the Competitive Edge track as the conditions became rougher late in the day. He was able to open up sizeable gaps against the competition in most of the motos he raced in on both 250 and 450 bikes.
How did you get started riding?
My dad bought me a bike when I was about 3 years old and I started riding from then.
How long before you started racing?I started racing about 5 years ago. Are you going to do any amateur nationals this year? We are actually going to go up to Honey Lake and then back here for the qualifiers and see if we can make Loretta’s. What classes are you trying to qualify in? I’m going to try 250 Intermediate Stock and Mod, 450 Intermediate Stock and Mod and Schoolboy.
Have you done any of the nationals before this year?Yeah, I did a few of the national last year in the Novice class, and then this year I moved up to Intermediate and we did Oak Hill and World Mini. How did you do? Oak Hill didn’t go too good, the mains were good, but I ended up with a 7th as my best finish. Then we went to World Mini and I got all top 5′s in the heat races and I got a moto win and then an overall win with a 4th and a 6th in the in the Intermediate Stock and Mod. Do you do any other activities outside of racing? Nah, I like to work out and go to the gym quite a bit. I do Crossfit training. We are getting road bikes soon but that about does it for now. How do you like the Transworld series? I think it is run really well and the tracks are always good. I like the long lap times.
