Race Report: Red Bud MX 2012

WMX Moto 1
An ailing Ashley Fiolek jumped out to her ritualistic holeshot with Troy Lee Designs/Lucas Oil/Honda’s Tarah Gieger in tow. Rockstar Suzuki’s Jessica Patterson lined up to gut out the race despite her severely injured hand, but it was clear she was anchored by the wounded limb.
Mariana Balbi and Kacey Creson took the helm of the rest of the field, but Balbi had some trouble and fell back to 11th. Creson took over the final podium spot, but it was all Fiolek and Gieger out front.

WMX Moto 2
Tarah Gieger stole the holeshot from Ashley Fiolek in the second moto, and even managed to hold her off for much of the race. However, Gieger went down and forfeited what could’ve been her first overall win of the season. Fiolek, instead, walked away with 1-1 scores for the overall. Gieger’s fall pushed her back to sixth while Mariana Balbi benefited with a second-place finish in her stead. Patterson, again, toughed out a few points with her broken hand, and we are told she will have it plated during the WMX break.
