Moto One
Geico Powersports Honda’s Justin Barcia rocketed out of the gate to take the holeshot and early lead in moto one, with Red Bull KTM’s Ken Roczen a close second. The two rivals would stay close to one another for nearly the opening moments of the moto. After working his way to the front group two quickly, Barcia’s teammate Eli Tomac stalked Barcia and Roczen as the two dueled. The battle and mistakes on both their parts allowed Tomac to make up massive amounts of time, as Tomac’s lap times were lower than the two leaders. But as he waited for the right moment to strike, points leader Blake Baggett drew close aboard his Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki. In typical Baggett fashion, he nailed the smoother lines in the later moments of the race and passed all three to take the lead. In no time, he put a sizeable gap between himself and the other three, finishing 6.798 seconds ahead of Barcia at the final flag.

Moto Two
Justin Barcia again claimed the holeshot in the second moto, with Tomac and Baggett in tow. Tomac wasted no time and overtook Barcia for the spot, with Baggett eventually doing the same. A close race for the lead quickly ensued between Tomac and Baggett, with Baggett making numerous strikes for the position. Just after taking the lead, Baggett crashed in a tricky section of the track, mangling his bike and dropping him to seventh in the process. This gave control of the race back to Tomac and he would not relinquish the spot again. By moto’s end, Tomac would be nearly 24 seconds ahead of Barcia and claimed the overall with 3-1 scores. Ken Roczen would net the final spot on the podium, but his 4-3 finishes were not enough to best Baggett’s 1-4 motos for third overall on the day.
