Mesa West, 7
Lake Forest, CA
Often at the Muscle Milk Transworld races you see former racers who are now parents and are bringing their kids into the sport and teaching them the ropes. We ran into Bill West, a once upon a time fast vet intermediate who was a regular in many of the Southern California races. For many years, West was always at the front of the vet intermediate classes. During the third round of the Summer Cup he was in the pits working with his daughter, Mesa, coaching her and and giving her last minute tips on the starting line. We stopped by to see how Mesa was doing and how well her father was helping her.
How many races have you been to now?
Ahhhhhh, two.
How did you do in the first one?
Well, at the last race my goggles got tons of dirt on them and I couldn’t really see, so on the last lap I had to cut the track.
How did you do today?
In the first race I did better and I got 5th place but the second race I think I got last place. I fell today in that race.
Even though you fell today, did you have fun coming out to race?
Yes!
What do your friends think of you racing?
Some of them think it is cool, some of them don’t. They don’t really care.
When you get older and get experience, are you going to be better than your dad was?
Yeah!!!!!!
What else do you like to do besides ride motorcycles?
I like to ride horses gymnastics and play baseball.
What kind of horse riding do you do?
Just regular horse riding.
What do you play in baseball?
I took a baseball camp and I play right field and second base.
Anyone you want to thank for bringing you out to the races?
My dad (thank you dad!) and my mom (thank you mom!).
