Southwick MX 1012: Practice Report

Round nine of the Lucas Oil AMA Motocross Championships is underway at MX 338 in Southwick, Massachusetts. With rain in the forecast, everyone is preparing for the worst, but hoping for the best, and so far the skies haven’t opened up. There are a few notable additions to each class with FMF KTM’s off-road champion Kurt Caselli making his motocross debut in the 450 class and Zach Bell making his professional debut in the 250 class aboard a Geico Honda. Southwick fan favorite John Dowd is also racing today. He qualified 36th.

As for qualifying results, in the 450 class Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Broc Tickle topped the charts with a time of  1:57.235 just ahead of Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey with a time of 1:57.637. Third went to Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Tyla Rattray with a time of 1:57.710. In the 250 class, Geico Honda’s Eli Tomac was the fastest, posting a time of 1:58.914. Behind Tomac was his teammate and sand specialist Justin Barcia with a time of 2:00.681. Third was points leader Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Blake Baggett with a time of 2:00.777.
