450 Class

450 Moto One

BTO Sports/JRG/Suzuki’s Michael Byrne was the first across the line in the first 450 moto of the day, just edging out Monster Energy Kawasaki teammates Tyla Rattray and Jake Weimer, as well the returning James Stewart for the holeshot. Stewart would work his way around Byrne in the first few moments of the race and immediately began to build a lead when a crash just before entering the Gravity Cavity ejected him from his bike. The length of time spent re-firing his Yoshimura Suzuki knocked him deep within the pack and handed the lead back to Byrne. The Australian veteran was calm at the front, as he was far away from second place Broc Tickle and the charging Ryan Dungey. But Byrne would have issues of his own in a rutted rhythm section and planted his foot on a jump, forcing him to pull of in pain. TIckle then inherited the lead and valiantly kept Dungey at bay with everything he and his Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki had to offer, but Dungey would eventually take over the moto with an uphill pass.

450 Moto Two

Davi Millsaps piloted his JGR/Toyota/Yamaha around the first turn at the front of the class during the second 45o moto, but within moments Andrew Short would sneak by to steal the lead. The L&Mc Chaparral Motorsports Honda rider spent the early laps out front as Dungey, Mike Alessi, and Stewart all worked to counter decent, yet mid-pack starts. For Alessi, the second moto would be critical to his season, as a first moto DNF made it possible for Dungey to clinch the title after the second moto. All three would pass Short in time and in the previously listed order before another crash, this time more severe, eliminated Stewart from the rest of the moto. From then, it would be a quite boring game of chase, as Alessi would appear to reel in Dungey before losing ground shortly after. When the final flag flew, it was Dungey taking his 14th moto win of the year and the 2012 National championship.
