Practice Report: Steel City 2012

After a one-week break, the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship has resumed in Delmont, PA, for the annual stop at Steel City. With only four motos left to go in the 2012 season, the battle for the 250 championship has everyone’s attention, as Blake Baggett, Justin Barcia, and Eli Tomac are within 30 points of one another. The Pennsylvania valley is thick with humidity and there is a slight chance the remains of Hurricane Isaac will sweep into the area this afternoon.

250 Class

GEICO Powersports Honda’s Eli Tomac topped the charts in the 250 class, as he decimated the filed with a 2:26.656 lap time, the fastest of the morning. Red Bull KTM’s Ken Roczen turned a 2:28.465 lap to take the second spot, while point leader Blake Baggett claimed third with a 2:29.185. Baggett was over a full second faster than Justin Barcia, who claimed fifth.

450 Class

Mike Alessi piloted his MotoConcepts Racing Suzuki for the fastest lap in the 450 class, besting second-place Nico Izzi by .693 seconds. Alessi and Izzi were the only two riders to dip into the 2:30 lap range, as third place qualifier Jake Weimer notched a 2:31.417 on his Monster Energy Kawasaki. Further down the chart was Ryan Dungey, who would take ninth place at the conclusion of the timed sessions.
