Monday Kickstart – Lake Elsinore MX 2012

The 2013 line of TwoTwo Motorsports apparel was on display under the etnies tent, and Chad Reed was spotted bouncing around the pit area during the day. After recently being cleared to ride, Reedy is already getting the new Honda 450 dialed for next season.

Maybe we haven’t paid close enough attention to Ryan Dungey’s KTM 450SX-F this year, but it looks as if some things like the shock and resonance chamber on the exhaust are quite big. And big means trick. Something worth noting is the fan on the backside of the radiator, which comes from the Husaberg catalog.

Dungey’s family and girlfriend attend nearly every round, and his father Troy pays incredibly close attention to his son while on the track.

As the day continued on, the hard base under the mulch topsoil began to shine through. Many have said this is a bad thing, but we like the added element on the series. Racers should be able to compete on loam, sand, and hard pack, and the SoCal stop adds the final type to the tour.

John Tomac brought a black trash back to the line containing Eli’s chest protector and helmet, which were being kept in dry ice. Since overheating in Texas during his rookie season, the family has been known to keep the helmet in a cooler during the summer.

Tomac’s chest protector, which he runs underneath his jersey, has a net riveted to the plastic panel that holds a chunk of dry ice to keep him cool during the moto. We did not realize Eli ran an under protector; we thought he was just that savage when he caught roost.
