Marc Peters was the man behind the design of the all-new Lake Elsinore track. Here, he watched over the track as the first set of practices got underway.
The track at Lake Elsinore was easily the biggest on the circuit—maybe even the biggest track to ever hold a National. The side pictured here was where the track usually resides when it’s normally open to the public, but it also went into the truck stadium on the opposite side of the property.
A couple off-road racers tried their hands at qualifying for the race. Colton Udall—Baja Champion and Honda rider—did his best, but unfortunately just missed the cut in qualifying.
Kawasaki-mounted Robby Bell was another off-road rider that tried to qualify for the race. Like Udall, though, he too just missed out on making it into the main motos.
This huge double wasn’t the only big jump found on the track. There were also some very big tabletops that some of the 250 riders were giving it all they had to get over. Here, Red Bull KTM’s Marvin Musquin throws a heal-clicker for the fans during the final practice of the morning.
Scott Champion's presence under the Star/Valli tent came with help from the Metal Mulisha's Brian Deegan. "The General" had a race-built Yamaha waiting in his garage and used his connection to the team to land Champion a one-time ride at LE. Look for an in-depth article with both later this week.
