In the combined practice/qualifying session, Mike Sleeter’s KTM tossed a chain. With no quick time on the charts or a second chance to redeem himself, Sleeter’s day was over.

It had been some time since Ricky Dietrich had raced, but when the chance to race the SLAM came up, he pulled together his resources and made a bid for the five G’s. He has only thrown his leg over the bike a handful of time over the past year, but his pace on Saturday showed that once you have “it,” you never really lose it.

Matt Goerke committed to the event before taking delivery of a new Bulter Brothers/BTO Sports KTM, but he was on point come race day. Had it not been for tweaked handlebars after the contact and crash with Ryan Hughes, Goerke could have been a threat in the later rounds.

Even after both Hughes and Goerke hit the ground in the first turn, their battle raged on until the final flag. Goerke was not pleased with the incident, as his fevered sprint after his aggressor showed.
