Drew Bezanson – Roots Run Deep

For my 10th birthday, my dad bought me a shiny new Webco BMX bike. It had Redline V-Bars and a sweet sparkle blue paint job. Of course, I was a fat ass so I was never any good on the thing, but I have many fond memories of pedaling that thing around the neighborhood. At one point, my best friend and I built a takeoff ramp out of old wood and used it to jump over old five-gallon buckets, Evel Knievel style. That all came to an end when I went for a new personal best of 10 buckets and ate shit in front of my grandma…

This summer, Warren Johnson from Fox Racing introduced me to one of Fox’s BMX team riders, Drew Bezanson, when he recruited me to snap a photo of him riding one of our test bikes for a Fall catalog mini feature. Since then, Drew has become a fairly regular riding buddy of the TWMX staff, and he’s even been out to a few of the Muscle Milk TWMX Race Series events to compete…and win! A couple weeks ago after a few morning motos at Milestone MX Park, Jordan Powell and I met Drew at some trails in Homeland, California. Though he’s best known for his skills on ramps, he’s also pretty gnarly on dirt jumps…

Watching Drew do what he does best almost made me want to revisit my BMX roots. Almost. Haha! Enjoy…
