Change Of Pace: Our Weekend In Wilkes-Barre At Arenacross

Intrigued by the new format (head-to-head bracket races, twin main events, Run To The Championship) that the AMSOIL Arenacross series has adopted in 2012-2013, we called our travel department and scheduled a trip to Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, for stop six of the ten round championship. There are stark differences between AX and SX, but at the root it is the same thing: dudes flying through the air on dirt bikes. The two days of racing in the Mohegan Sun Arena were action packed and a nice change-up from the routine we have established covering Supercross and the Nationals. If your town is one of the four remaining stops of this year’s series, we recommended you take in at least one night of action. You won’t be disappointed.

The head-to-head knockout format of racing brings an added challenge to the night for the racers, but draws a big reaction from the fans. Two riders hit the track for a quick two-lap dash, with the winners advancing up the bracket and into the final round, where the winner earns one championship point. Ames and Bowers have met in the final numerous times this year, and it was Bowers taking Saturday night’s win.
