Haruki Yokoyama, 15 Riverside, CA Sponsors: Nost Suspension, Powered by Naveen, Eks Brand, Spoke Skins, Focus Apparel, O’Neal MX, Dunlop, Susie Digits Haruki Yokoyama has been a dominant rider in the Supermini class for the Fall Cup series, taking home several overall victories with 1-1 finishes. In addition, the Japanese racer also enters the Schoolboy class on his supermini, putting in top 10 finishes in a class with well over 20 racers at most events. Yokoyama has caught our attention at the races with his clean style and speed that puts him at the front of the field. Fresh off a pair of class wins at the Amateur Open of Motocross in Arizona the day before, Yokoyama made the drive overnight to the final round of the Muscle Milk/Transworld MX Fall Series to compete in the last race of the year. After several rounds of seeing him at the front, we caught up with Yokoyama to see learn more about the Supermini champion. What brings you out to the Muscle Milk/Transworld MX races? Just to have fun and racing for training. How did you get started racing? I was 3 years old when I started riding and then racing soon after. Why did you choose motocross over other sports? My dad was riding, so I wanted to be first and like him. Is your whole family involved in racing as well? Yeah, my sister and brother ride also in Japan. What brings you over here to race instead of Japan? I want to win the Japanese Nationals, so I come over here to race first. What pro rider do you look up to and is your favorite? My favorite rider is Ken Roczen because he can do the cool whips and scrub. What has been your biggest accomplishment in your racing so far? My best is at Loretta’s in the 12-14 85cc Mod, I got a 14th in the first moto, second moto my motor broke, and in the third moto I got a good start but I fell, so I ended up 30th. What are you racing plans for next year?
Next year I will race Supermini at Texas, World Mini, Mammoth and hopefully Loretta’s.
When will you transition for supermini to the bigger bikes?
Probably after Loretta’s next year.
What other things do you do besides racing?
I ride BMX when not racing.
What kind of training do you do to prepare for racing?
I do some running as well as just riding.
