The third year of the Muscle Milk TWMX So-Cal Race Series has officially begun. The opening round of the 2014 So-Cal Winter Cup was hosted at the location with the highest number of race entries in the series’ history-Milestone MX Ranch. And, again, the Riverside, CA stop featured almost another record breaking amount of race entries-and for good reason. The facility features everything from big jumps, to rhythm sections and deep ruts, but at the same time, even beginners can have a blast on the somewhat sandy tracks.
Probably the only downfall to yesterday’s racing, though, were the intense winds. The Santa Ana’s didn’t let up for one minute throughout day and it wreaked havoc on both racetracks. Luckily for everyone, though, the Milestone track crew was absolutely on it with the water trucks as every section of the track dried up in what seemed to be minutes of laying down large amounts of water. Also, EKS Brand Goggles was on hand keeping everyone supplied with fresh goggles and goggle accessories as the winds made for harsh track conditions.
Tons of Southern California’s fastest amateur racers showed up to this weekend’s opening Winter Cup round and they all brought their “A” game for the day’s competitive racing. Ryan Surratt and Tallon Lafountaine were the top dogs amongst the Schoolboy and Intermediate classes. The two went at it in nearly every moto and each walked away with moto victories. When it came to the pros, Brandon Brady and Sean Lipanovich were the guys to beat. Like Surratt and Lafountaine, Brady and Lipanovich both battled for moto victories and, again, the two ended the day with wins to their names.
Round 2 of the 2014 Muscle Milk So-Cal Winter Cup will be hosted at Glen Helen Raceway on January 12th. See you there!
