For the fourth weekend in a row, race action at the Monster Energy Supercross was intense and exciting, this time at O.co Coliseum in Oakland, California. Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto became the first rider to win two main events in the 450 class, while Rockstar Energy Racing’s Jason Anderson scored a shocking last-lap win in the 250 class when a mechanical gremlin sidelined Dean Wilson’s chances for his first win of the season.

250 HEAT ONE

Yamalube/Star Racing/Yamaha’s Cooper Webb led the way at the start of the first race of the night, but GEICO Honda’s Zach Osborne struck immediately and stole the lead. Jason Anderson was next to pressure Webb, and passed the young rookie at the start of lap two, but Webb struck back with an aggressive pass to retake the position. Anderson, however, would not be denied, and made his was back into second moments later and set his sights on Osborne. It took a few laps for the rider from New Mexico to make a move on the leader, but once he moved past, the Rockstar Energy Racing KTM pilot rode away to an easy win. Osborne held on to second, comfortable ahead of Webb.

250 HEAT TWO

Fast qualifier Dean Wilson grabbed the holeshot aboard his Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki at the drop of the gate in heat two, and had series points leader Cole Seely, Malcolm Stewart and Justin Hill in tow. While Wilson pulled away up front, the battle for third between Stewart and Hill began to heat up, and came to a head when Hill pushed the larger rider high in a left-hander. With that, the running order of the top riders stayed the same, with Wilson enjoying a comfortable lead at the checkered flag, Seely a lonely second, with Hill and Stewart third and fourth.

250 MAIN EVENT

Wilson grabbed his second holeshot of the night at the start of the 15-lap main event, but his teammate Hill forced his way past and into the lead. Anderson was next to pressure Wilson, and dogged the Scotsman with his aggressive riding style. Anderson forced his way past on lap three and set out after Hill, who was riding at amazing pace.
Behind the lead trio, Lucas Oils/Troy Lee Designs/Honda teammates Seely and Stewart battled tooth in nail over fourth. Webb joined the battle with an aggressive pass attempt on Stewartm but the two riders made contact and crashed out of contention together.
Up front, Hill, Anderson and Wilson rode in close formation, and brought the crowd to its feet with some amazing racing. Anderson and Wilson traded second multiple times at the halfway point, but Wilson suddenly caught fire and rocketed past both Anderson and Hill to assume the lead. Anderson displaced the younger Hill brother on the next lap and set after Wilson.
Last week’s winner, Seely, spent a few laps battling with GEICO Honda’s Zach Osborne, before taking first control of fourth.
Up front, Wilson set a blistering pace and turned in lap after perfect lap, looking the best he has all season long as he pulled out a commanding lead over Anderson. It all fell apart on the very last lap when Wilson’s bike mysteriously died, a few jumps before the finish line. Wilson’s steed fired up just in time to save second, just after Anderson leapt past for the win. Hill was third, ahead of Seely and Osborne.
