Ben LaMay To Return In Detroit

CycleTrader.com/Rock River/Yamaha’s Ben LaMay is slated to make his return to racing this weekend at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan, for round 11 of the 2014 Monster Energy Supercross Series. The 450 rider was injured just days before the season opener in Anaheim, California, after bailing from his machine in mid-air while practicing in Southern California.

“I don’t really have any expectations other than to get back out there and have a good time. I rode this morning and I felt really good.”

“I dislocated my wrist and tore most of the ligaments, so that was kind of the main thing that was setting me back while I was waiting for it to heal,” LaMay explained. “I also broke my jaw, my left eye socket, my left cheekbone, my nose, and I knocked two teeth out. I had to get five titanium plates put in my face.”

Lamay has only been back on his YZ450F for about a week now, but despite the short amount of time to prepare, he feels he’s ready to get back out there for his first gate drop of the year. “I wouldn’t say I’m at 100 percent yet, but I think I’m at about 80,” LaMay told us today. “I think my fitness is decent, and the only thing I’m really worried about is my race fitness. I just want to start racing and get back into the flow of it. I don’t really have any expectations other than to get back out there and have a good time. I rode this morning and I felt really good. It’s going to be a lot of fun. I’m just enjoying getting ready to go racing again.”
