Cianciarulo & Villopoto Fastest At Ford Field | 2014 Detroit SX Timed Qualifying

Timed Qualifying has concluded at round eleven of the 2014 Monster Energy Supercross Series in Detroit, Michigan. The return of motorcycle racing to the Motor City after a long hiatus is a welcome event, and even the track layout brings back memories of racing at the Silverdome with a run through the stands. Despite this feature, the track seems one-lined and there does not appear to be any major obstacles on the track that separates the field. Still, this will make for interesting racing, as riders will have to force their way through the get to the front of the pack.

The wear and tear of the tour is starting to take its toll on the competition and a number of riders have opted to sit out tonight’s action with injuries. Ivan Tedesco, Eli Tomac, and Kyle Chisholm will be missed in the 450 class, while Blake Wharton and Jace Owen are out of the 250 ranks

Tonight’s racing kicks off soon at 7PM and will be televised in its entirety on FOX SPORTS 1, but at a three-hour delay. Check your local listings for more information and exact times.

450 Timed Qualifying

The soft top soil was deceiving to 450 riders in the early sessions, as the rear ends of every bike broke free when hard on the throttle. There was still plenty of traction for Ryan Villopoto to steer his Monster Energy Kawasaki to the fastest lap of the day, a 54.687. Only he and Yoshimura Suzuki’s James Stewart were able to break into the 54 second range, and Stewart’s 54.888 was more than enough to take second on the day. Dean Wilson is coming to the final rounds of his fill-in ride for Chad Reed at the America’s Tire/TwoTwo Motorsports Kawasaki, and he was again high in the order during practice, taking third ahead of Red Bull KTM’s Ken Roczen. The times in the 450 class have a bit of a curve, as only two were in the 54 second range, seven were grouped at 55 second range, and the bulk of the field came in at 56 seconds.
