Stewart, Anderson, Martin Top Timed Qualifying | 2014 Las Vegas SX

The 2014 Monster Energy Supercross Series comes to a dramatic close, with the seventeenth and final round taking place today inside Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. With the 450 championship already decided, tonight we will see the crowning of two 250 regional titles and the annual Dave Coombs Memorial East Vs. West Shootout, which pits both region’s best against each other in a ten-lap duel for dominance.

250 East Coast Regional

Jeremy Martin must have found his flow in the final moments of the season, and the Yamalube/Star Racing/Yamaha rider turned the fastest lap of the East Coast class with a 1:10.688. Justin Bogle has the championship all but awarded for the division, but the GEICO Honda rider’s afternoon was not without issue and he experienced two crashes in the final session of the day. His 1:11.179 from the first session was enough to take second on the charts. Kyle Cunningham is known for his speed on the desert hard pack and carved the third fastest time, a 1:11.268, aboard his Smartop/MotoConcepts machine. JAB Motorsports Matt Lemoine was the last rider in East Coast group to post a lap in the 1:11 range at 1:11.861, while GEICO Honda’s Matt Bisceglia completed the top-five at 1:12.191.

250 West Coast Regional

The pace of the West Coast division was noticeably quicker than the East, with top qualifier Jason Anderson posting a 1:09.758 aboard his Rockstar Energy Racing KTM. Zach Osborne was the fastest rider in the first session of the day with a 1:09.843, and this put the GEICO Honda rider second on the charts overall. Malcolm Stewart stated that this weekend will be his final 250 Supercross event, and the Troy Lee Designs/Lucas Oil/Honda rider claimed third despite a wind-caused crash in the final session. Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Dean Wilson was far down the charts for most of the day jumped up the board late in the final session with a 1:10.241. Troy Lee Designs/Lucas Oil/Honda and title contender Cole Seely rounded off the top five with a 1:10.504.

450 Supercross

The fastest laps of the 450 class came in the first timed qualifier of the day. Yoshimura Suzuki’s James Stewart clocked the fastest lap, a 1:08.125, and shrugged off many questions regarding the knee he tweaked last weekend in New Jersey. His time was just .017 seconds better than second place runner Ryan Villopoto, who turned a 1:08.142 aboard his Monster Energy Kawasaki. Team Honda Muscle Milk’s Justin Barcia, another racer who with past success in Las Vegas, notched third with a 1:09.006. Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey was just slightly off Barcia’s pace, with a 1:09.181 his best for the afternoon. Josh Hill, in his final race for the RCH/Soaring Eagle/Suzuki, netted fifth with a 1:09.851.
