Motocross Sports Medicine & Science | Accelerometers

During the Las Vegas SX, the first accelerometer designed to monitor both a rider and motorcycle was debuted by Motocross Sports Medicine & Science. Founded by John Waraniak of SEMA, Dr. Amy McIntosh of the Mayo Clinic, and the Asterisk Medical Unit, the committee looks to better understand what a rider’s body experiences during a crash. A small box mounts to a rider’s helmet, while g-forces on the body are checked via earpieces. The product is still in its infancy, as its first tests are slated to occur this week, but we spoke with the board members of MXSMS on what the future holds for our sport.
