With the reintroduction of Glen Helen to the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, the GoPro Hangtown Classic once again finds its place as second on the schedule. And that’s alright. The massive hills of the opening round are unlike anything else, and now riders can actually settle into the same riding habits, setup, and pace they will carry through the next 11 stops of the summer series. But it seemed like the drive up California’s I-5 had no affect on what transpired in Sacramento, as the same field of riders found their places in the order just laps into each of the four motos. Still, the racing action offered plenty of excitement and added just another interesting chapter into what could be a pair of historic championship chases…

Two years of injury have put Michael Byrne on the sidelines for the time being, and although the veteran Aussie is fully healed from last year’s incident he opted not to race this season. He has retained a role at longtime sponsor BTO Sports KTM as an advisor to racers Andrew Short and Matt Goerke.
