With the reintroduction of Glen Helen to the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, the GoPro Hangtown Classic once again finds its place as second on the schedule. And that’s alright. The massive hills of the opening round are unlike anything else, and now riders can actually settle into the same riding habits, setup, and pace they will carry through the next 11 stops of the summer series. But it seemed like the drive up California’s I-5 had no affect on what transpired in Sacramento, as the same field of riders found their places in the order just laps into each of the four motos. Still, the racing action offered plenty of excitement and added just another interesting chapter into what could be a pair of historic championship chases…

For years gold pans were the trophy of choice for Hangtown, but the track decided to take a unique route for 2014. The top three riders in both classes were awarded with these replica handguns from the Wild West, encased in handbuilt frames. The third place gun was modeled after Billy The Kid’s .45-caliber revolver.
