Vicki Golden In Contention For ESPY Award

Vicki Golden

Vicki Golden has become an icon for female action sports athletes around the world. Rather than compete in the gender specific classes that fail to receive ┬ánecessary support, Golden has jumped into the racing and freestyle motocross divisions typically dominated by men and has held her own against the competition. Golden made history in 2013 by becoming the first female athlete to attain a medal in a freestyle motocross competition at the X Games in Los Angeles, then achieved an even more impressive feat by becoming the first female racer to score the necessary points through the AMSOIL Arenacross Ricky Carmichael Road to Supercross program, thus giving her the chance to line up at Anaheim One in 2015 against the gate of male racers. Golden took fifth at this year’s Best Whip competition at the Austin X Games, but finds herself in contention for the Female Action Sports Athlete of the Year at tonight’s ESPY Awards.

Golden is pitted against a pair of Winter Olympic athletes (one of which has a cover of The┬áBody Issue of ESPN The Magazine), a surfer, and an X Games snowboarder. Considering Golden’s popularity in fan voting events in the past, she has a solid chance at taking the award at tonight’s presentation, but only if fans cast the necessary votes.
