We have officially reached the halfway point in the 2014 Muscle Milk TWMX Summer Cup and it is really starting to feel like a So-Cal Summer. Temperatures just below the triple digits and extreme humidity levels made for a hot and sweaty afternoon at round three. However, that didn’t slow down the racers as everyone on the racetracks didn’t even seem to be bothered by the heat.
Perris Raceway was the third round of the Summer Cup and it’s always a real treat when visiting California’s oldest motocross track. Perris Raceway has tendency to start out moist and tacky in the early morning hours, but as the hours fly by just like the racers, the track begins to dry out and even become hard packed in certain spots. Which isn’t normally a problem for Southern California natives as we all grew up on the hard packed terra firma.
Once the racing got underway it was, again, clear that there was no shortage of fast racers. Jake Martineau took home the top honors in Schoolboy (Thru 17) as he won both motos and also took home a moto win in 250 Intermediate. Filipe Souza is a relative newcomer to the Muscle Milk TWMXRS and he seems to be getting acclimated, quite well. Souza went 3-1 in Open (Non-Pro) for the overall win just beating out Bobby Catren. Kai Mukai had a pretty good day, as well, as he took home the overall in 450 Intermediate with a 2-1 finish. Sean Lipanovich and Mike Sleeter had some great battles in Pro Open. The two exchanged the number one spot on more than one occasion, but Sleeter had to settle for second as his 4-1 finish didn’t outdo Lipanovich’s 1-2. Broc Shoemaker was another strong finisher this weekend as he won 250 Pro and finished third overall in Pro Open.
We hope to see you all at round four of the Muscle Milk TWMX Summer Cup, which will be held at Glen Helen Raceway on August 17th. See you there!
